HSSC Accreditation Standards - Setting New Quality Benchmarks for Care Providers

The Healthcare Sector Skill Council (HSSC)  working under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has developed standards to ensure consistent quality, safety, and accountability across two vital care domains:

1. Home Care Service Providers

Home care has become increasingly essential as families seek quality healthcare in the comfort of their homes.

The new HSSC Home Care Standards establish frameworks for:

    • Skilled caregiver training in patient safety, medication management, mobility assistance, and emergency response.
    • Compliance and quality assurance mechanisms for care organizations.

Structured supervision and documentation to ensure reliability and client safety.

2. Residential Care Facilities Providers

With India’s elderly population projected to exceed 193 million by 2031, residential care facilities are vital for seniors and individuals requiring long-term support.

The new HSSC Residential Care Standards focus on:

    • Creating dignified, safe living environments that promote quality of life.
    • Standardized protocols for nutrition, mobility, mental well-being, and social engagement.

Continuous skill development for staff to maintain high standards of person-centred care.

Why This Matters

Through this initiative, HSSC aims to:

    • Recognize and accredit institutions that demonstrate excellence in healthcare skilling, training, and service delivery.
    • Encourage continuous improvement across India’s care ecosystem.

Bridge industry-academia-policy collaboration to strengthen workforce development for the healthcare and eldercare sectors.

“The launch of HSSC’s accreditation standards is a landmark moment in India’s care evolution,”
“For over a decade, we have been working toward dignified, professionalized caregiving. These national standards will help unify quality expectations, protect patients, and elevate caregiving as a respected profession.”
